National Unity Day/Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Vallabh Bhai jhaver Bhai Patel, also known as Sardar Patel, Loh Purush, the Iron Man of India or a founding father of the Republic of India was born on 31 October 1875. This year marks the 144th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He merged 565 princely states to make India one nation.

His birthday is celebrated as “National Unity Day” since 2014.

The official statement of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was provided by the Home Ministry of our country.

Objectives of National Unity Day:

1) National Unity Day is celebrated every year to encourage feeling of Unity, Peace, Love and Brotherhood among the people.

2) To promote harmony among Indian people despite having differences in culture, languages, religions, geographical diversity in Indian society.

3) To enable youth and other people of different religions to work in a group and understand each other through social, cultural, economic and educational camps.

4) To develop better understanding among youth about diverse ideas, religions and lifestyles to strengthen the unity of the people in the society.

The central government has instituted the highest civilian award in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his significant contribution to the unity and integrity of the country. This award will be given for remarkable contribution towards national unity and integrity and a strong and united India. He was awarded with country’s highest award “Bharat Ratna“ in 1991. The statue of unity, a monument near Narmada Dam in Gujarat state was dedicated to him in 2018.

On this auspicious day let us take an oath that we will always maintain the unity and integrity of India.
